Brief Bio

Gaurav Dixit, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Information Systems at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, where he has been serving since 2015. He became an AIS Distinguished Member in 2025, the first from an Indian Institute of Technology. He has held a visiting position at the Indian Institute of Management Indore. Before his PhD, Gaurav was a Systems/Software engineer at the Product R&D division of Hewlett-Packard (HP), where he was awarded for his performance. Gaurav is a proud IITian, a 2007 B.Tech CSE graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, having cleared the prestigious IIT-JEE exam in 2003 and received a Merit Scholarship based on his IIT-JEE Rank. He earned his PhD from the Indian Institute of Management Indore, one of the very few Indian institutions featured in the Financial Times Global MBA Rankings.

Gaurav serves as an Editorial Board member at the Scientific Reports for COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCE. He has served as Session Chair at the prestigious Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems and Track Chair at the India Conference on Information Systems. His paper, "Suspiciousness of social media accounts," won the Best Paper Award at the AIS SIG Workshop on Information Systems in Asia Pacific (ISAP) 2024 and is now published in the Data Science and Management journal.

Gaurav has published research papers in leading conferences like International Conference on Information Systems, Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems, and Academy of Management Proceedings and also in top journals like Data Science and Management, Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Journal of Computer Information Systems, Information Technology for Development, Journal of Business Analytics, Electronic Commerce Research, Journal of Cleaner Production, and Journal of Global Information Technology Management.

Gaurav has executed research projects funded by DST, SERB, ICSSR, NMHS, and Fuzzy Logix. At IIT Roorkee, he typically teaches courses related to Digital Transformation, Artificial Intelligence, and Deep Learning.

Additional Details

Gaurav started his professional career at Hewlett-Packard (HP) as a software/systems engineer in 2007. His work at HP included product R&D for the Network File System (NFS), Network Information Service (NIS), and High Availability (HA) clusters on the HP-UX operating system.

In 2014, Gaurav joined the Strategy Group at Sharda University, where he spent his time working on Enterprise Software projects (LIBSYS, PeopleSoft, CampusLynx) and their implementation as a project manager on deputation.

He has conducted multiple training programs related to Data Science, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and AI.
During 2019-20, Gaurav pioneered online training programs in IITs in collaboration with Edtech firms such as Coursera, WileyNXT, and CloudxLab.

When he gets some free time, he can be found wandering in the Himalayas, exploring ancient mystical places.
